Progress on our acreage

Shortly after our purchase of the property, we arranged for the harvest of the mature sugar cane that had been planted by the previous owner. We then used bulls to plow the part of the land that we wanted to regrow the cane for later harvest. Plowing with bulls instead of a tractor and plow allows the roots and stalks of the sugar cane to resprout naturally with only a minimum of replanting bare areas. On the lower semi wetland area near the natural stream we planted sweet potatoes, yams, and carrots for harvest in a few later months.

We hired a crew of stone cutters from Kisumu ( Dogo and crew ) to shape and size the stones needed for the wall fence. After getting the structural engineering drawings for the foundation and wall approved, the actual construction of the walls, columns and gate commenced. We hired a hydrologist to map out the underground aquafer for the best place to drill a bore hole ( well ) 90M deep. The water came out clean, clear and with no impurities that would detract from the natural taste. A suitable pump and water tank were then installed. We had a dedication and ground breaking on July 18, 2023.
